Our Rams

Our Dog

Lavendels "Valur" is a purebred registered male Icelandic Sheepdog.  These dogs are relatively new to the United States.  They are still actively used for herding sheep in Iceland.  They have a very strong herding instinct!  We had talked about getting a herding dog with our sheep.  When I saw this picture of Valur as a puppy, I knew he was my dog.  I cannot even begin to tell you the joy Valur has brought into our lives.  He is very gentle, loving, and just wants to please us. He is incredibly smart.  We teach him to do something and he immediately has it.  Icelandic Sheepdogs come in long hair and short hair.  Valur is obviously long-haired.

Valur is available for stud service. He will be 2 years old in June.  We plan to have his hip and CERF checked soon. If you are looking to breed for intelligence and good temperament, as well as conformation and agility, Valur would be a wonderful choice to pass on those genetics.

Valur's Pedigree

Valur's sire, Hofshesta "Gloi" came to the United States in December 2003 directly from Iceland. Gloi is a cream dog with a brown nose, bringing rare color and new genetics to North America.  Gloi also has a gentle, calm personality...like father, like son.  His Icelandic Registration number is IS07582/03. Gloi is also registered with AKC-FSS; his number is DN05912701. He was born June 6, 2003. Gloi's OFA results

Valur's dam, Lavendels Belle, is very intelligent and a quick learner...like mother, like son.  She was born May 14, 2002.  She is registered with the AKC-FSS: DN02544101, ISNA-2002-0045, UKC P363-641.  Belle's OFA results

There are many characteristics that make up the Icelandic Sheepdog Breeding Standards.  If you would like further information regarding Valur or our stud service, please email or give us a call.

We also have a Shetland Sheepdog, Annie, who is Valur's best friend.   She is spayed and about a month younger than Valur.  They love to spend their time playing "tag."  Valur will pick up a stick and taunt Annie into chasing him.  I think she could catch him, but she likes to let him think he can win...you know how girls are.  Annie surprised us with her herding instinct. We had thought it had been bred out of her, but she and Valur make a great herding team.  Annie is also an amazing soccer player. I challenge anyone to take her on!
